•COURSE
OBJECTIVES
The course has been designed so that on satisfactory completion, students will demonstrate the following skills:
• Ability to produce fine wood products using hand and power tools and limited machinery.
• Awareness of the occupational health and safety issues concerning woodworking environments.
• " Appreciation of the role of wooden products in society and the basic design process.
One of the unique aspects of this course is that is brings together a significant component of basic design with the larger component of construction - as
reflected in the course title. It also has a focus on the development of
excellent woodworking hand skills, many of which have almost disappeared from the
traditional trades training like cabinet-making and joinery, but for which there is an
industry demand and skills shortage for these high end skills.
