The Forest Heritage Centre offers a wide range of educational tours to suit all year levels. Many of our activities are hands on, giving the participants the opportunity to really get to know the forest around them. Specific tours can be designed to enhance the class topic or to meet specific work requirements. Discussion with our tour coordinator prior to visiting the centre with your class will ensure the very best tour will be delivered. All our guides are proficient in all areas of forest ecology, resource management and the Australian School of Fine Wood.

TOUR TOPICS

The Biddi Yanna Djaril Mari Trail explains the many and varied uses of the jarrah forests as used by our indigenous ancestors.

If your theme looks at the historical use of the jarrah forest, our reconstructed timber getters camp site will show first hand the type of life children had less than 100 years ago.

A winter Mia, an aboriginal made shelter using the resouces the indigenous people have used for centuries.

Adjacent to the Forest Heritage Centre is the Coli timber mill. This fully operational mill has a purpose built viewing platform overlooking the everyday working life of a modern timber mill.As bush fires can be very destructive we can explain the techniques used to reduce the risk of fires along with the amazing regeneration ability of the jarrah forest. We can also show the importance of fire in the environment.

These are only a few of the topics that can be delivered by our guides. A wide selection of worksheets are available to complement the tour.

Unguided tours are available which include an introduction if requested.

The Australian School of Fine Wood is the only specialist fine wood training school in Western Australia. This facility is ideal for students wishing to know more about furniture design and manufacture. Lecturers are pleased to share some of their knowledge with those interested in wood studies.
