The Forest Heritage Centre delivers the following recognised training:  

Introductory "Course in Fine Wood Design and Construction"

                        Diploma of Art - Furniture Design

Diploma of Art - Furniture Design

This is a two year full time course, funded by the Department of Education and Training and is designed to meet the needs of the fine wood industry. Students are selected through an interview process that includes a portfolio of their current work.
Graduates find employment in the commercial furniture design and manufacturing industry, in high-end custom cabinetmaking businesses, in the luxury boat fit-out industry, or as designer/makers in the fine wood industry.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding, with Curtin University of Technology in Bentley, graduates can now apply and receive 1.5 Years Advance Standing towards a Bachelor of Arts (Furniture Design). Click here to download this  Information Flyer  about the articulated pathway.

The course comprises 30 modules of work incorporating the development of skills associated with the design, construction and marketing of fine furniture.

Students have an opportunity to operate the WoodMizer, a horizontal bandsaw capable of milling logs up to 700mm in diameter and down to veneers of 3mm thickness.
The general public can also have their timber milled to there own specifications - contact the Forest Heritage Centre for details.
This Woodmizer is now available for the public to rent.
 


Introductory "Course in Fine Wood Design and Construction"

The course specifically designed to introduce people to formal training and develop the skills and work ethic associated with the fine wood and furniture industry. Funded by the Department of Education and Training, Introductory Woodcraft is a short course of 160 hours of contact time.

The course is composed of three modules of work that encompass construction, basic design and occupational health and safety. Participants are selected on application and may require an interview as spaces are limited. A student making a document box in the accredited, Course in Fine Wood Design and Construction.
